ROLE OVERVIEW
A public-sector transportation organization in the North DFW area is seeking an experienced Contract Recruiter to provide immediate recruiting support during a period of increased hiring activity.

This recruiter will manage a high-volume hiring workload with an immediate focus on filling approximately 24 Bus Operator positions by year-end, while also supporting a variety of corporate and professional openings across the organization.

The role requires someone who can step into an active recruiting environment, quickly understand hiring priorities, build candidate pipelines, and independently move applicants through the recruitment process. This person will partner closely with hiring managers and HR leadership to ensure critical positions are filled efficiently while maintaining a positive candidate experience.

The ideal candidate has previous recruiting experience within transportation, transit, government, municipal, public-sector, or a closely related environment and understands the unique requirements involved in hiring frontline and regulated employee populations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage full-cycle recruiting for a combination of high-volume transportation positions and corporate openings.

• Lead recruiting efforts for approximately 24 Bus Operator hires targeted for completion by the end of the year.

• Support additional recruiting needs across administrative, professional, operational, technical, and corporate functions.

• Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing requirements, candidate qualifications, hiring priorities, and anticipated start dates.

• Conduct intake meetings and develop recruiting strategies based on each departments hiring needs.

• Source candidates through job boards, professional networking platforms, applicant databases, referrals, community resources, recruiting events, and direct outreach.

• Build and maintain active candidate pipelines for current and anticipated transportation hiring needs.

• Review applications and resumes to identify candidates who meet position requirements.

• Conduct phone and virtual candidate screens to evaluate experience, qualifications, communication skills, schedule availability, compensation expectations, and overall alignment.

• Present qualified candidates to hiring managers and provide clear recommendations based on position requirements.

• Coordinate interviews and maintain regular communication with candidates throughout the selection process.

• Collect hiring-manager feedback and help ensure candidates move efficiently through each stage of the process.

• Support offer coordination, pre-employment activities, and candidate follow-up through the hiring and onboarding process.

• Maintain consistent communication with candidates to provide updates and reduce candidate drop-off.

• Manage multiple requisitions and competing hiring priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

• Maintain accurate applicant, requisition, interview, and hiring information within the applicant tracking system.

• Monitor recruiting activity and provide updates regarding candidate pipelines, interviews, offers, hiring progress, and recruiting challenges.

• Identify potential recruiting bottlenecks and proactively adjust sourcing or outreach strategies.

• Partner with HR and operational leadership to meet aggressive year-end staffing objectives.

• Participate in career fairs, community recruiting events, hiring events, and other talent-attraction initiatives as needed.

• Represent the organization professionally when communicating with candidates and community partners.

• Follow applicable recruiting procedures, employment practices, and public-sector hiring requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 2+ years of recruiting, staffing, talent acquisition, or closely related experience.

• Previous recruiting experience within transportation, transit, government, municipal, public-sector, or a closely related organization.

• Experience managing full-cycle recruiting responsibilities.

• Experience recruiting high-volume, hourly, frontline, operational, or safety-sensitive employee populations.

• Strong candidate sourcing, screening, and interviewing skills.

• Ability to manage multiple open requisitions and changing hiring priorities simultaneously.

• Experience partnering directly with hiring managers and department leaders.

• Strong organizational skills with consistent attention to follow-up and deadlines.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to build rapport quickly with candidates from a wide range of professional and operational backgrounds.

• Experience using applicant tracking systems, job boards, and online recruiting platforms.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned recruiting activity.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with aggressive hiring deadlines.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Previous recruiting experience for Bus Operators, Drivers, CDL positions, transportation employees, or similar frontline roles.

• Experience recruiting within a transit authority, transportation agency, municipality, government entity, or other public-sector environment.

• Experience with high-volume hiring campaigns or accelerated hiring initiatives.

• Experience recruiting both hourly/operational employees and corporate professionals.

• Familiarity with recruiting for safety-sensitive or regulated positions.

• Experience coordinating hiring events, career fairs, community outreach, or large-scale recruiting initiatives.

• Experience using recruiting metrics and reporting to track hiring activity and progress.
WHAT WILL MAKE SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL
The strongest candidate will be a recruiter who can quickly take ownership of an active workload and begin moving candidates through the hiring process with minimal ramp-up time.

This person should be comfortable balancing the urgency of high-volume Bus Operator recruiting with the different requirements associated with professional and corporate searches.

Success in this assignment will require strong candidate communication, consistent hiring-manager follow-up, and the ability to keep multiple recruiting processes moving at the same time.

The ideal recruiter will be proactive, organized, personable, and comfortable working toward aggressive year-end hiring goals while maintaining a professional and positive candidate experience.
