MECHANICAL DESIGNER
LOCATION
DFW Airport Area | Onsite
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
• Full-time
• Onsite engineering and manufacturing environment
• Mechanical design and drafting focus
ROLE OVERVIEW
A growing industrial manufacturing organization in the DFW area is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the development of detailed mechanical designs, assemblies, and production documentation.
This role is responsible for turning engineering concepts, sketches, specifications, and design inputs into accurate 3D models and manufacturing-ready drawings using SolidWorks. The Mechanical Designer will work closely with engineers, manufacturing teams, and other technical groups to move designs efficiently from initial concept through production release.
The ideal candidate has strong SolidWorks experience, understands how parts and assemblies are manufactured, and can produce clear, accurate technical documentation with minimal rework. This person should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where design accuracy, revision control, manufacturability, and communication are critical.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create detailed 3D mechanical models, components, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Translate engineering sketches, concepts, specifications, and design requirements into accurate production-ready designs.
• Develop complete mechanical assemblies that support fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing processes.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and supporting technical documentation.
• Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, notes, and manufacturing requirements to technical drawings.
• Use GD&T principles to clearly communicate design intent and critical dimensional requirements.
• Work closely with mechanical engineers to refine concepts and convert early-stage designs into manufacturable solutions.
• Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to identify design concerns, fabrication limitations, tolerance issues, and assembly challenges.
• Incorporate feedback from engineering, production, quality, and other internal teams into design revisions.
• Support sheet metal, machined, structural, and fabricated component design.
• Help ensure designs account for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, serviceability, and production requirements.
• Maintain accurate CAD files, models, drawings, revisions, and related engineering documentation.
• Manage drawing and model revisions through the applicable PDM or document-control system.
• Maintain accurate part libraries, configurations, assemblies, and supporting design records.
• Participate in design reviews and provide updates on assigned design work.
• Support prototype builds and early production activity by addressing design questions and making necessary revisions.
• Assist with resolving drawing discrepancies, fit-up concerns, and manufacturing issues identified during production.
• Follow established engineering standards, drawing practices, naming conventions, and document-control procedures.
• Manage multiple design assignments and priorities while meeting required project deadlines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Associates degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of professional mechanical design or drafting experience within an engineering, manufacturing, industrial, or product-development environment.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks.
• Strong experience creating 3D parts, assemblies, and production drawings.
• Experience developing manufacturing-ready drawings and detailed mechanical documentation.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Familiarity with ASME drawing and drafting practices.
• Strong understanding of common manufacturing methods, including sheet metal fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly.
• Ability to understand how design decisions affect manufacturing, assembly, cost, and product quality.
• Experience using PDM, PLM, or other engineering document-control systems.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing and model accuracy.
• Ability to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and technical requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate conceptual ideas into practical mechanical designs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and other technical teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Experience designing industrial equipment, electrical enclosures, power distribution equipment, or other complex mechanical assemblies.
• Familiarity with sheet metal enclosure design and fabrication.
• Experience supporting prototype development and production releases.
• Exposure to engineering change processes, drawing revisions, and configuration control.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, or similar engineering data-management systems.
• Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) certification.
• Familiarity with industry standards related to electrical enclosures or industrial power equipment, including UL 891, UL 508A, UL 67, or UL 1008.
WHAT WILL MAKE SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL
The strongest candidate will be someone who enjoys taking an early-stage idea and turning it into a detailed, accurate, production-ready design.
This person should understand that strong mechanical design is not just about creating a model. Success requires thinking through how a component will be fabricated, assembled, inspected, revised, and ultimately used in production.
The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, comfortable collaborating with engineers and manufacturing teams, and willing to ask questions when design intent is unclear.
Someone who takes ownership of drawing quality, maintains accurate documentation, responds well to feedback, and consistently delivers reliable design work will be particularly successful in this position.
