Job Title: Loss Mitigation Underwriter
Location: Remote

CornerStone Professional Placement is seeking a Loss Mitigation Underwriter to join a leading mortgage servicing company on a seasonal contract basis. This is a remote opportunity offering competitive pay and the chance to support homeowners by evaluating and recommending appropriate loss mitigation workout options. This role requires strong knowledge of mortgage default processes and an ability to analyze complex borrower financials and property data.

Responsibilities:
• Underwrite loss mitigation requests, including both retention and liquidation solutions
• Review borrower documentation to assess income, hardship, housing expenses, and repayment ability
• Recommend appropriate loan workouts based on investor and mortgage insurance guidelines
• Analyze delinquency, escrow analysis, and modification proposals
• Review and negotiate liquidation contracts and HUD-1 statements with third parties
• Collaborate with title companies, realtors, attorneys, and tax offices to validate payoff figures
• Prepare Short Sale closing packages and review appraisals/comps to validate offers
• Draft loss analysis reports and make recommendations to senior management
• Manage pipeline to ensure timely, accurate processing of cases
• Stay current on underwriting policies, investor updates, and compliance alerts
• Maintain accurate system notes, documentation, and reporting
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
• 2+ years of Loss Mitigation Underwriting experience
• 2+ years of Mortgage Default experience
• Proficient in MSP software
• Familiarity with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Loss Mitigation guidelines
• Knowledge of loan servicing, loan modifications, and real estate loan documentation
• Experience reviewing financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, credit reports, and title
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and time management abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines

Compensation and Benefits:
• Employment Type: Seasonal Contract
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard business hours
• Location: REMOTE
• Salary: $28-$32 per hour
