Job Title: Controller

CornerStone Professional Placement is seeking an experienced Controller for a direct-hire opportunity with an established public-sector organization in the Fort Worth area. This leadership position will oversee financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and audit activities while ensuring accuracy, transparency, and adherence to governmental accounting standards. The ideal candidate will bring extensive governmental accounting experience, strong technical expertise, and a proven ability to lead complex financial reporting initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• 
  Lead the preparation and oversight of annual audited financial statements, financial reports, and required regulatory disclosures.
  
• 
  Direct the development and completion of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.
  
• 
  Manage annual financial audits and Single Audits, coordinating with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  
• 
  Oversee the preparation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) and applicable federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
  
• 
  Ensure compliance with governmental accounting principles, internal controls, and applicable regulatory standards.
  
• 
  Provide leadership and guidance to accounting personnel, supporting accurate financial reporting and continuous process improvement.
  
• 
  Evaluate financial processes, identify opportunities for greater efficiency, and implement improvements to strengthen financial operations.
  
• 
  Collaborate with executive leadership and internal departments to provide financial analysis, reporting, and strategic recommendations.
  

Requirements:

• 
  Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
  
• 
  Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards required.
  
• 
  Extensive experience leading financial statement audits and preparing audited financial reports required.
  
• 
  Governmental or public-sector accounting experience required; municipal or city government experience strongly preferred.
  
• 
  Experience preparing or overseeing Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR).
  
• 
  Knowledge of Single Audit requirements, federal grant reporting, and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).
  
• 
  Strong understanding of governmental financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls.
  
• 
  Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage complex reporting deadlines and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
  
• 
  Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
