Job Title: Controller
Location: Remote (Equipment Provided)
Note: Candidates must be based in Orange County, CA, New York City, NY, or Phoenix, AZ to attend periodic in-person meetings. This is a remote role with occasional on-site requirements.
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM CST (Must be flexible for business needs)
Compensation: $120K - $150K BOE
About the Opportunity
CornerStone Professional Placement is partnered with a rapidly expanding private equity firm seeking a hands-on Controller to support and scale their accounting operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and acquisition-focused environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on growth and financial integrity. The Controller will work closely with the firm’s Sr Accounting Manager, playing a key role in financial reporting, compliance, and integration efforts across multiple entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Close & Reporting
- Lead month-end close activities for both corporate and subsidiary entities.
- Ensure accurate posting of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial schedules.
- Support the preparation of internal financial statements and management reports.
- Consolidation & Technical Support
- Assist in consolidating financials across the firm’s portfolio companies.
- Contribute to the drafting of technical accounting memos and disclosures related to acquisitions, goodwill, and intangibles.
- Acquisition Accounting & Integration
- Support purchase price accounting for newly acquired entities.
- Help integrate acquired businesses into corporate systems and accounting processes.
- Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate with external auditors, preparing audit-ready workpapers and reconciliations.
- Stay current with GAAP and emerging accounting guidance; assist in maintaining compliance across all entities.
- Process Improvement & ERP Involvement
- Contribute to the standardization of accounting procedures across business units.
- Support process automation initiatives and ERP optimization (experience with Sage Intacct is a plus).
- Operational Insights & AP Oversight
- Compile data to support weekly KPI reporting and financial performance analysis.
- Oversee accounts payable processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness in financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- 4-6 years of progressive corporate accounting experience, ideally in private equity, investment firms, or acquisitive businesses.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, with experience in consolidations, technical accounting (ASC 805, ASC 842), and audit support.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems; Sage Intacct is a plus.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, remote-first, acquisition-driven environment.
- Strong Excel and communication skills; ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
