CornerStone has partnered with a national tax consultancy firm in their search for a Transactional Tax Compliance Director with extensive background in fuel and excise tax  to have oversight of a team of 10, handling high volume returns for clients across multiple industries.   The Director should have a strong background in transactional tax compliance; planning, preparing and filing returns.  We are seeking a hands on leader with the ability to handle multiple transactional tax compliance engagements concurrently; engaging current clients and building out new business, scheduling kick off calls, monthly meetings, staff scheduling, monitoring progress, assessing quality assurance and making internal process improvements.   Join one of the largest transaction tax firms in the country, apply today!
Requirements for the Transactional Tax Compliance Director:
  • Master in Taxation or CMI preferred highly desired, will consider a Bachelor Degree
  • 8+ years of tax compliance / tax consulting experience handling high volume returns
  • Must have fuel and excise tax 
  • Prior experience building out a team is a plus
  • Research and Writing experience required
  • Will also consider candidates with a Juris Doctorate that have transitioned into tax
  • Must have multi-state experience
  • Advanced Microsoft office and knowledge of Vertex and FilePoint or ability to learn
  • Intermediate working knowledge with CCH, LexisNexis and adobe acrobat
  • Public accounting experience with a boutique or Big 4 accounting firm
  • Extensive experience with sales and use tax, excise tax, real property transfer tax, realty transfer tax, deed transfer, etc.
  • Must have experience building new and existing business
  • Ability to work remote or a hybrid model in your city (position located in Chicago)
  • We are seeking persons at Manager, Sr, Manager, Director level
  • 15-20% travel required
